How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Position: SEN Teacher (Secondary) – Lead Teacher for Engagement (Emergent Learners)
    Contract Type: Full-time Temporary
    Start Date: 01/09/2026
    Location: Barnet, London
    Salary: £41,935 - £56,154 per annum (M3 – U3)
    Salary will be determined based on experience and position on the Main Pay Range. The maximum salary is applicable to candidates with substantial teaching experience equivalent to U3.

    About the Role

    Teach Now is recruiting for a compassionate and innovative SEN Teacher to take on a Lead Teacher for Engagement role within a specialist secondary setting in Barnet.

    This is a key middle leadership position focused on supporting students with the most complex learning needs, including those with multiple disabilities, profound communication needs, and sensory differences. You will lead the development of highly personalised, sensory-based learning pathways and create engaging, therapeutic learning environments that enable every student to thrive.

    Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, you will champion communication-focused approaches, including AAC, and drive the development of specialist curriculum pathways, alternative assessment methods, and high-quality teaching practices across the school.

    You will be supported by a dedicated leadership day each week, an experienced senior leadership team, and a HLTA, allowing you to focus on both strategic development and outstanding classroom practice.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Lead provision for students with complex and profound learning needs
    • Design and implement personalised, sensory-based learning pathways
    • Champion communication strategies, including AAC
    • Support and coach staff in adapting teaching for complex learners
    • Develop alternative assessment approaches and specialist curriculum content
    • Work collaboratively with therapists, teachers, and support staff

    Requirements
    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - essential
    • Experience working in a SEN setting, particularly with complex needs - essential
    • Strong understanding of communication needs and sensory-based learning
    • Experience across secondary key stages
    • Eligibility to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)
    • Enhanced DBS required
