How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Civil Design Engineer
    Nottingham

This is a really solid opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer to step into a key role within a well-established, multidisciplinary Engineering Consultancy that continues to grow its presence across the Midlands. The business operates across Civil and Structural Engineering, Environmental, Geotechnical, Highways and Transport, giving you exposure to a genuinely varied and interesting project portfolio.

Their work spans residential, commercial, industrial, education, retail and leisure developments, so no two projects feel the same. You'll be joining a team that places real value on collaboration, technical quality and delivering practical, buildable solutions for clients, while also giving engineers the space to develop and take ownership of their work.

They're now looking to bring in a Senior Civil Design Engineer who can take a leading role within the team. This position offers a good balance between technical delivery, project responsibility and client-facing exposure, making it ideal for someone who enjoys being hands-on while also shaping projects and supporting others.

In this role, you'll be leading and managing infrastructure schemes across highways, drainage and flood risk. You'll take ownership of design delivery, including SuDS strategies and foul drainage systems, while coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders to keep projects moving efficiently. There's a strong element of client interaction, so you'll be comfortable presenting ideas, attending meetings and contributing to developing new and existing relationships.

They're looking for someone with a solid background in Civil Engineering, typically with around 8+ years' experience, who is either Chartered or working towards it. You'll have a strong understanding of drainage and infrastructure design and be comfortable using tools such as MicroDrainage or InfoDrainage, along with Civil 3D and AutoCAD.

Alongside project delivery, you'll also support the wider team through mentoring and guidance, helping to develop junior engineers and contribute to a positive, collaborative working environment. You'll also get involved in work winning activities, supporting bids and helping to grow the team's project pipeline. This is a great option for someone looking to step into a more senior position where you can genuinely influence projects, support a growing team and continue progressing your own career within a supportive Consultancy environment.
