How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

I am recruiting on behalf of my client for a Shift Engineer position based in Poole, working within a large-scale, high-volume manufacturing environment spanning 19 acres and housing over 5,500 assets on site.

Shifts are a critical part of this role and are as follows: rotating shifts (days and nights), including weekends, with clear handovers required between each shift to ensure operational continuity. Flexibility to work shift patterns and overtime is essential for the successful Shift Engineer.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Shift Engineer to join a well-established engineering function where reliability, safety, and continuous improvement are at the core of operations. The successful Shift Engineer will play a key role in maintaining production output, minimising downtime, and driving engineering standards across a complex site.

As a Shift Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving a wide range of manufacturing equipment and plant, working closely with production to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.

Key responsibilities of the Shift Engineer include:

Carrying out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance across manufacturing equipment and plant
Fault finding and repair to minimise downtime and maintain production efficiency
Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability and performance
Ensuring all engineering activities are carried out safely, following permit systems, risk assessments, and isolation procedures
Communicating effectively at shift handovers to ensure continuity of issues and actions
Managing spare parts usage and maintaining accurate stock levels
Supporting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA)
Liaising with production and other departments to ensure equipment availability for planned maintenance
Providing technical support, coaching, and mentoring to operators and junior engineers
Maintaining high GMP and housekeeping standards within engineering areas
To be successful in this Shift Engineer role, you will have:

A recognised mechanical (NVQ Level 2) and/or electrical qualification (City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent)
Strong hands-on engineering experience within a manufacturing environment
Broad knowledge of modern maintenance techniques
Experience working with a wide range of production equipment
    Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a shift-based team
A proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement
In return, the Shift Engineer will benefit from:

    Bonus Scheme (up to 5%)
Pension Scheme – up to 10% employer contributions
    Buy holiday scheme
    Discounted products
    Health Cash Plan
Career opportunities within a global group employing over 128,000 people
Discounts on over 900 retailers via a dedicated platform
    Generous family leave policy
    Leadership development programmes
    Group Cycle to Work scheme
    Free parking
The opportunity to work on a large, complex site with over 5,500 assets across 19 acres
A structured shift pattern with clear processes and handovers
A strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement
A collaborative engineering and production environment
Ongoing training and development opportunitiesIf you are an experienced Shift Engineer looking for your next challenge in a dynamic manufacturing environment, I would be keen to speak with you.
