How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor
    Location: Northampton Contract Type: Permanent
    Salary: £52,000 – £60,000 + package

    The Role

    As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role within project teams, supporting the commercial management of civil engineering projects ranging from £200k to £10m+ in value.

    You will be responsible for ensuring strong commercial control across projects, including cost reporting, forecasting, subcontract management, and contract administration. Working closely with delivery teams, clients, and the supply chain, you will help drive efficiency, manage risk, and maximise commercial performance.

    This role requires a proactive approach, strong contractual knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    Commercial Management
    • Production of accurate cost and value reporting (CVRs)
    • Cash flow forecasting and cost control
    • Monthly forecasting and commercial planning
    • Applications for payment through to final account
    • Identification and management of commercial risk and opportunity
    • Supporting project profitability and cost efficiency

    Contracts & Procurement
    • Administration of NEC and IChemE contracts
    • Subcontract procurement, negotiation, and management
    • Managing subcontract accounts and payment processes
    • Ensuring compliance with contract terms and governance requirements
    • Managing change, variations, and claims
    • Maintaining strong supply chain relationships

    Stakeholder Management
    • Liaising with clients and project stakeholders on commercial matters
    • Supporting operational teams with forecasting and cost advice
    • Attending project and commercial meetings as required
    • Providing commercial guidance to site teams

    Processes & Controls
    • Ensuring compliance with internal commercial processes and reporting deadlines
    • Supporting continuous improvement of commercial systems and procedures
    • Maintaining accurate records and financial documentation

    Key Requirements

    Essential
    • Previous experience in a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor role within construction or civil engineering
    • Strong knowledge of NEC and/or IChemE contracts
    • Experience in subcontract procurement and commercial management
    • Strong experience in monthly forecasting, CVRs, and cost analysis
    • Excellent communication, numerical, and IT skills (MS Office proficiency)
    • Strong organisational and time management skills
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to deadlines

    Desirable
    • Degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
    • Membership of RICS or working towards
    • CSCS Card
    • Experience working within a direct delivery contractor environment
