How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    The Opportunity:

    Our client, a leading civil engineering main contractor, is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to support the delivery of a growing portfolio of infrastructure projects across the North West.

    This is a key role within the business, responsible for managing and coordinating the design process from tender through to construction, ensuring designs are safe, compliant, and buildable.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Lead and manage the design process across multiple civil engineering projects
    Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, including consultants and subcontractors
    Ensure design outputs meet programme, budget, and quality requirements
    Review and challenge design proposals to ensure buildability and value engineering opportunities
    Manage design risk and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations
    Oversee design assurance and approval processes
    Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and internal delivery teams
    Support bid and tender stages with technical input and design planningWhat We're Looking For:

    Proven experience as a Design Manager within a civil engineering main contractor
    Strong background in infrastructure projects (e.g. highways, structures, drainage, utilities, or rail)
    Excellent understanding of design management processes and project delivery
    Ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
    Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
    Commercial awareness and ability to influence design decisionsDesirable:

    Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline
    Chartered or working towards chartership (ICE or similar) (desirable)
    Experience working under NEC contracts
    Background in delivering major infrastructure or complex projectsWhat's on Offer:
