How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

West Bromwich, West Midlands £42,000-£46,000 DOE + Company Vehicle + Pension + Flexible Working + Long‑Term Progression

A heritage British manufacturer of bespoke heavy industrial lifting equipment is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a tight‑knit, expert engineering team. This is a role with real depth: complex design challenges, end‑to‑end ownership, and a clear progression path to Principal Engineer within two years.

If you're a driven mechanical engineer who thrives on technical variety, problem‑solving and seeing your designs come to life, this opportunity offers the autonomy, recognition and long‑term career development you've been looking for.

    What You'll Be Doing

Taking full ownership of the product lifecycle for bespoke heavy‑duty lifting solutions - from initial concept through to product completion.

Leading design projects, producing detailed 2D/3D CAD models, and carrying out advanced stress calculations and mechanical testing.

Delivering engineered solutions across Rail, Construction, Aerospace, Offshore and other regulated industrial sectors.

Meeting customers to capture technical requirements and translate them into robust, tailored engineering solutions.

Working collaboratively with quality, production, engineering and technical sales teams.

Managing multiple concurrent projects, balancing short‑term demands with long‑term development programmes.

    What You'll Bring

Strong Mechanical Design Engineering experience within heavy engineering, lifting equipment, or safety‑critical machinery.

Proven ability to manage projects from concept through to production.

High proficiency in stress calculations, FEA principles, and mechanical stress testing.

Excellent CAD capability and confidence handling multiple complex projects simultaneously.

Strong commercial awareness and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.

Desirable extras: experience in regulated industries, knowledge of hydraulics, control circuits or electrical systems, and familiarity with BS EN standards.

Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering (or similar).
