How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Tooling Designer
    Derby
    Full Time

    The Opportunity
Our client is undergoing a period of significant growth. As a result of an increased workload across our key accounts, they are expanding their Derby site and looking for a Senior Tooling Designer to join our world-class engineering team.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of designing critical tooling, jigs, fixtures, and components that support some of the UK’s most complex energy and infrastructure projects. We are looking for a designer who doesn't just draw, but who innovates—identifying effective solutions to emerging engineering problems.

    Your Responsibilities

Lead the design of tooling, jigs, and fixtures from initial outline and concept through to detailed design and final handover.
Identify and formulate solutions for emerging technical challenges, ensuring the final product meets all performance, reliability, and safety metrics.
Define budgets and work programmes for the complete design lifecycle, including requirements capture and scope estimation.
Manage Risk and Opportunity registers and prepare comprehensive product reports and technical documentation.
Support and mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of integrity and high-quality output.
Engage in lifelong learning to develop new theories or methods that keep Assystem at the cutting edge of the industry.
    Your Profile
We are looking for a self-motivated engineer with a high degree of independence and a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles.

    Essential Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in mechanical design, with specific emphasis on Valves, Pressure Vessels, Structural components, Tooling, or Lifting Equipment.
Familiarity with 3D CAD systems (ideally Siemens NX) and PLM systems (Teamcentre).
Knowledge of analysis tools such as MathCAD, ANSYS, or ABAQUS.
A solid understanding of relevant design codes, materials science, and safety legislation.

    Education:
BEng or a similar professional qualification in an engineering-related field.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead by example, instilling integrity in others.

    Security & Export Control
Due to the nature of our work in the Energy and Infrastructure sectors, this role is subject to security and export control restrictions
