How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

SUEZ are looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to help keep our recycling and recovery operations running safely, efficiently, and reliably. We're looking for candidates with knowledge of machinery such as conveyors, motors and gearboxes.

At SUEZ, we act for what truly matters: for the environment, for society, and for the future. This is the place for people who want to make a real impact, not just watch from the sidelines. Join us and help drive positive change through innovative solutions that build a more resilient and sustainable world.

    About the role:

    Salary: £47,532
Benefits: up to 10% annual bonus, 3 x life assurance policy, 5% employer pension
Location: Manchester, Longley Lane Material Recycling Facility
    Hours: 4 on 4 off shift pattern, nights 6pm - 6am.

What will I be doing as a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter?

Working on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern, you’ll play an essential role in maintaining the equipment that keeps our recycling and resource‑recovery processes moving. You’ll help ensure our machinery operates at peak performance, contributing directly to environmental sustainability and the safe, efficient delivery of our services.

    Key responsibilities include:

    * Carrying out planned maintenance, inspections and servicing of processing, recycling and recovery plant and machinery.

    * Ensuring plant installations and modifications meet current standards and regulatory requirements.

    * Assessing and diagnosing mechanical faults, and advising supervisors on corrective actions.

    * Completing repairs using safe systems of work and following all Health & Safety policies.

    * Supporting continuous improvement by helping identify maintenance and reliability enhancements.

What are the requirements? (Experience and qualifications)

    * A mechanical engineering background, ideally time‑served through an Engineering Apprenticeship (or equivalent experience).

    * Experience working in manufacturing, production engineering, waste management or a similar maintenance environment.

    * Hands‑on knowledge of equipment such as conveyors, motors, gearboxes, hydraulics and pneumatics; basic electrical fault‑finding is beneficial.

    * Ideally City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering.

    * A good understanding of Health & Safety regulations; IOSH is desirable, and training can be provided.
