Chief Estimator - 6 month contract (permanent opportunity too) - Broad Oak, Hampshire - £66.63 ph UMB or £49.38 ph PAYE (Inside IR35)

The Umbrella rate quoted above is the Gross Umbrella rate (i.e. the rate we pay to the Umbrella Company inclusive of ALL employment costs). Please note, the rate paid by the Umbrella will be less, as will a Limited Deemed rate or Agency PAYE rate. Please get in touch to discuss the rates via these different payment vehicles.

The Role

The position holder will own all pricing activity undertaken to ensure that Naval Ships Combat Systems Portfolio of bid and contracs are competitive and deliver strong returns for the business, with the appropriate balance of risk and reward.

The role holder will need to demonstrate strong leadership of not just a small estimating team, but of a number of project controllers outside their direct hierachy as it relates to pricing and consting responsibilty. They will also need to be an expert in estimating and pricing capability, comfortable setting direction and providing advice and guidance to cross functional teams, including those on the Senior Leadship Team, as well as articulating and enacting a vision for the future pricing approaches within CS.

Role Responsibilities:

Not limited to…

Define, shape and direct the pricing strategy for Combat Systems.
Ensure that BAE Systems Governance is applied across the business including leading audits and making recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team.
Provide leadership, advice and guidance for all aspects of pricing and costs within the Combat Systems business.
Lead the upskilling of estimating, commercial and project controls with respect to End to End Pricing, competitive pricing techniques and interrogation and analysis of costs.
Ensure all toolsets utilised in the estimating field are fit for purpose, and people are trained appropriately, identifying potential new toolsets to provide business advantage.
Lead the pricing within the estimating team for bids that are strategically important or have a value of £20M upwards. Ensure that Project controls are actively engaged and deliver within governance all pricing below that threshold.
Liaise with other functions to ensure integrity and competitiveness of the estimating process.
Provide leadership and guidance with respect to supplier pricing, from defining pricing requirements through to being able to determine value for money and support/lead negotiations as required.

What are BAE Systems looking for from you?

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
The ability to interpret and present complex commercial and pricing models in a clear unambiguous manner.
Excellent Commercial and estimating acumen. Ability to lead negotiations.
Knowledge of both design and delivery aspects of the business, preferably with a good understanding of software development and delivery
Ability to define innovative pricing models and estimating techniques to support business growth
Experience within Defence/working with MOD is highly advantageous due to understanding SSR.

Security Requirements: SC
