How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

This is a hands-on, field-based role with involvement in major UK infrastructure projects, including a large-scale nuclear construction development. The position focuses on the diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and commissioning of specialist earthmoving equipment, including articulated dump trucks, wheeled excavators, and low ground pressure machinery.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Carry out on-site fault diagnosis, servicing, and repairs on construction plant equipment

    * Perform preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) to minimise breakdowns and downtime

    * Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems

    * Support machine commissioning, pre-delivery inspections (PDI), and handovers

    * Respond effectively to breakdowns, aiming for first-time fix where possible

    Customer Interaction

    * Act as a professional, customer-facing representative on site

    * Provide technical advice and support to customers and operators

    * Liaise with parts and technical teams to ensure efficient repair planning

    Health, Safety & Compliance

    * Work in full compliance with HSE policies, site rules, and legal requirements

    * Complete risk assessments and follow safe systems of work

    * Maintain accurate service records and job reports

    Skills & Experience Required

    * Proven experience as a Field Service Engineer or Plant Engineer

    * Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, transmissions, and electrical diagnostics

    * Experience working on construction plant, earthmoving equipment, or similar machinery

    * Ability to work independently in a field-based role

    * Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills

    * Experience working on major infrastructure or regulated construction sites

    * Familiarity with telematics, CANbus diagnostics, or electronic control systems

    * Relevant safety certifications (e.g. CSCS, CCNSG or similar) advantageous

    Personal Attributes

    * Safety-focused with a professional approach

    * Organised and methodical, with strong reporting skills

    * Confident communicator with customers and internal teams

    * Adaptable and comfortable in demanding site environments

    * Committed to quality workmanship and customer satisfaction

    What’s on Offer

    * Opportunity to work with high-quality, specialist machinery from a global OEM

    * Involvement in major UK infrastructure projects

    * Competitive salary with overtime opportunities

    * Company service vehicle, tools, and diagnostic equipment
