How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

My client is seeking an Associate Director or Principal Engineer (OHL) to join their growing Transmission & Distribution team. You'll be part of an ambitious organisation delivering world-class engineering design on some of the most exciting and complex energy infrastructure projects in the country.

    The Opportunity

My client's Transmission & Distribution Engineering division provides end-to-end services across power systems analysis, substations, cabling, overhead lines, and HVDC systems - supporting the UK's transition to a net zero grid.

As part of this team, you'll contribute to major national projects that form part of a multi-billion-pound programme to strengthen the UK grid, integrating renewable generation and enhancing long-distance power transmission capability.

    What You'll Do

As a senior member of the OHL team, you'll bring your expertise and leadership to a range of technically challenging and high-profile projects:

Lead the delivery of overhead line design on complex, multi-disciplinary projects (up to 400kV).
Carry out detailed PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, structural analysis, and sag-tension calculations.
Develop design criteria, clearance reports, and conductor/insulator selection recommendations.
Manage scope, technical delivery, and client relationships for OHL elements within major schemes.
Support bids and proposals, contributing technical insight and innovative solutions.
Conduct feasibility studies and ensure all designs meet safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Provide leadership in internal reviews and quality checks of designs, reports, and calculations.
Mentor junior engineers and support technical excellence across the wider team.

    About You

We're looking for an experienced OHL engineer who combines strong technical capability with the ability to inspire confidence in clients and colleagues alike.

    Essential skills and experience:

Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline).
Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards it, ideally via the IET.
Proven experience delivering overhead line projects up to 400kV.
Knowledge of UK transmission system design standards and safety regulations.
Strong communication, client engagement, and leadership skills.

    Desirable:

Experience with transmission system operators (e.g. National Grid).
    LCDAE & CDAE certifications.

    Why Join My Client?

This is an opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation at the heart of the UK's energy transition. You'll work on landmark projects, collaborate with industry experts, and help shape the future of sustainable power transmission.

If you're ready to take the next step in your career and make an impact on the UK's clean energy future - I'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and power up your next career move.
