The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant for deaf and hearing-impaired pupils, your mission is to ensure every child can access the curriculum fully. Your duties will include:

Communication Support: Using British Sign Language (BSL) to interpret lessons and facilitate communication between pupils and their peers.

Inclusion: Supporting deaf pupils during their transition from the Deaf Learning Base into mainstream classrooms.

Curriculum Access: Adapting learning materials to suit the visual and linguistic needs of hearing-impaired learners.

Social Development: Encouraging social interaction and building the confidence of pupils within the school community.

Collaboration: Working closely with the Teacher of the Deaf (ToD) to monitor and report on pupil progress.

Requirements
To be successful in this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you must have:

BSL Proficiency: Minimum BSL Level 2 (Level 3 or above is highly desirable).

Experience: Proven experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired children in an educational setting.
*
Knowledge: A strong understanding of the challenges faced by deaf learners and how to overcome them.

Compliance: A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
