How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    An opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a progressive consultancy firm in the Chesterfield area on a contract basis. You will join a very friendly team, where you can use your creativity and design skills and really make a difference. The business has been established since 2012 and their mission is to drive growth in the business. This really is the best time to be joining a highly profitable business with ambitious plans for the future. They are offering an attractive rate of £40-45 per hour and remote working/hybrid model. This will be an initial 4 month contract, with the potential to extend.

    Summary:

    Primarily to design and detail plant layout, bespoke systems and equipment from proposal to commissioning. The role includes basic aspects of project management. This position is hybrid: primarily home based with occasional office and site visits when necessary.

    Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer:

    Design from concept to detail.
    Production of detailed design documentation, including 3D models, 2D sketches, 2D general arrangements, 2D detailed engineering manufacturing drawings, P&ID, schematics, material lists, process, and mechanical design calculations, suitable for design appraisal by Client, Manufacture, and Installation by 3rd
    Production of supporting documentation, user manual and mechanical certification dossiers, including quality plans, production programs, and manufacturing procedures.
    Design and detail to ensure quality, safety, reliability, maintainability, and cost efficiency is met along with other Client expectations.
    Work closely with a variety of disciplines, (electrical, process control, etc.) within the team and externally.
    Ensure all contracts are completed with the required quality, contractual delivery date and are within budget.
    Liaise with suppliers to integrate 3rd party equipment into models.

    Requirements of the Mechanical Design Engineer:

    Experienced Mechanical Design Engineer, with plant layout and mechanical handling equipment design experience, such as Hoppers, Silos, Belt Conveyors, Bucket Elevators, Rotary equipment (mills Dryers, Coolers, Kilns) or similar
    Steelwork design/detail experience essential, such as Skid Frames, Mechanical Equipment Access Platforms, Staircases, Equipment Support Structures, Portal Frame Buildings.
    Pipework design/detail experience essential
    3D design software and modelling experience, SolidWorks is essential
    Experience in Tekla is highly desirable
    Literate in the use of MS Office, Outlook, and Adobe Software
    Advanced interpersonal skills, able to communicate at all levels.
    Proactive and analytical approach to problem solving.

    Salary and Benefits:

    Hourly rate of £40-45 per hour.
