How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Please note that this post is funded for the 2026/27 academic year onwards so the successful candidate would not be expected to commence in post prior to 1st September 2026.

The School of Adult Education in South Thames College has an excellent opportunity for an inspiring and ambitious individual to take on the role of ESOL Lecturer.

You’ll deliver high-quality ESOL provision to teenage and adult learners, supporting them in achieving their academic goals, building confidence in English and progressing successfully. A key aspect of the role is to act as an effective personal and academic tutor, particularly for learners aged 16-18, through structured pastoral support, aspiration-raising activities and enrichment opportunities that enhance cultural capital.

As our Lecturer, you’ll hold a degree or relevant professional qualification in a suitable subject, alongside a recognised teaching qualification and excellent ESOL teaching skills across all levels. You will be confident in working effectively with both adult and teenage learners. You’ll have experience of meeting Awarding Organisation standards and a proven track record as a personal tutor, including supporting learners with pastoral needs. A clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults is essential.

You’ll also demonstrate a high level of digital literacy, using technology effectively to enhance the learning experience. With a flexible and creative approach to problem-solving, you’ll be open to new ideas and initiatives

The successful candidate will be eligible for any increase in salary as a consequence of the annual cost of living review that will be implemented in the new academic year.

Closing date for the return of completed applications is 5th May 2026.

Interviews to be held at the Wandsworth Campus on 12th May 2026.

The benefits package includes generous annual leave of 40 days plus up to 8 additional days over Christmas/New Year as well as an additional 5 days Wellbeing leave to enhance employees’ physical and mental health. There is an excellent pension scheme that receives a significant financial contribution from the employer (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidised sports facilities and professional development and training plus a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme.

South Thames Colleges Group is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.

As outlined in the Public Sector Equality Duty of the Equality Act 2010, we are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.

As part of our due diligence checks on prospective employees, successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references, an online search and proof of eligibility to work in the UK.

The South Thames Colleges Group is made up of Carshalton College, Kingston College, Merton College and South Thames College, which merged on 1 August 2017.
