How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Now is an exciting time to join a rapidly growing and award-winning developer of semiconductor sensor and detector devices, as their Applications Engineer.

    Based in Sheffield, you will join a small, and growing, team of Applications Engineers, working with Sales, FAE and factory applications team to solve and resolve customers’ technical queries.

    With experience gained in a similar role, you will be responsible for customer Applications Support for the sensor, detector and photonic products.

    Providing support for existing products, and introducing new products, you will conduct lab experiments and measurements as required.

    Through your work, you will develop applications notes, product training material and sales collateral in conjunction with marketing.

    Developing Reference Design Kits and Evaluation Boards, you will have responsibility for customer delivery of evaluation kits.

    There will be opportunities to travel and attend trade shows and travel to customer facilities to demonstrate products/RDKs and support customers.

    In time you will become a technical product expert for the range of detector and photonic products.

    You will provide technical and market application requirements inputs into product roadmap and support technical product definition/contribute to technical datasheets.

    Qualifications:

    We are looking for a BSc/BEng/Masters/PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Optoelectronics or Physics.

    Experience:

    Ideally you will have 5+ years of experience in the Photonics / Semiconductor &/ or Data / Telecommunications sectors.

    Experience in some of the following is preferred : Device modelling, Photodiodes and Receivers, APDs, Schematic/PCB design, optical sensors and sensing, Laser Range Finding, LiDAR, high speed optical communication systems, OTDR, signal integrity/RF skills, electronics and components, reference design development, knowledge of optical components (e.g. TO-can, Pigtail, ROSA, BOSA).

    Additional Information:

    Candidates MUST be eligible to live and work in the UK without requiring sponsorship. Copies of Passport and Visa will be requested for verification.
