How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Maths Second in Charge – Waltham Forest – September 2026

A results-driven, high-achieving secondary school in Waltham Forest is seeking a talented and ambitious Maths Second in Charge to join their thriving Mathematics department from September 2026. This is a permanent Maths 2iC role within a school rated Outstanding by Ofsted, recognised for its analytical curriculum, strong leadership pipeline, and exceptional standards of classroom practice.

    About the School

This well-established Waltham Forest secondary school has built a reputation for academic excellence, combining traditional values with a forward-thinking approach to teaching and learning. The Maths department delivers a carefully sequenced curriculum across KS3, KS4, and KS5, with consistently strong GCSE and A-Level outcomes. Behaviour is supported by clear, embedded whole-school systems, allowing teachers to focus on high-quality delivery. Staff benefit from research-led CPD, collaborative planning, and a leadership team committed to internal progression.

    What the School Offers

A TLR-supported Maths 2iC role with a clear pathway to Head of Department

Structured CPD programme with access to Maths Hub networks and national teaching partnerships

Robust behaviour policy with strong pastoral and SLT support

Collaborative departmental planning with a focus on reducing unnecessary workload

A high-achieving Mathematics faculty with strong examination results and pupil outcomes

    The Role

As Maths Second in Charge, you will support the Head of Department in leading curriculum planning, overseeing assessment and data analysis, and driving attainment across all year groups. You will deliver outstanding Maths lessons, contribute to staff development within the department, lead on intervention strategies, and play an active role in enrichment provision — including Maths challenges, problem-solving clubs, and UKMT competition preparation. Building strong, productive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents will be central to your leadership approach.

What the School is Looking For

Hold UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

Strong academic background — 2:1 or above in Mathematics or a related discipline, ideally from a Russell Group university

Proven track record of successful secondary Maths teaching in a UK school, with strong pupil outcomes

Experience of, or aptitude for, leadership, curriculum development, or staff mentoring

Confidence working within whole-school assessment and behaviour systems

    Salary & Contract

Outer London MPS: £37,870–£50,474 | UPS up to £56,154. TLR2 attached.

If you are an experienced Maths Teacher ready to take the next step into leadership, this Maths 2iC opportunity in Waltham Forest is an excellent platform for long-term career progression. We welcome applications from high-calibre practitioners committed to mathematical excellence and sustained impact in Secondary Teaching.
