How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

English Teacher | Outstanding Secondary School | Hounslow

Are you an English Teacher looking for a September start at a school where academic standards are genuinely high, the department is well established and pupils are motivated to achieve?

A large, oversubscribed and highly regarded secondary school in the London Borough of Hounslow is looking to appoint an English Teacher for a September start.

The school was rated Outstanding by Ofsted in April 2024, a judgement that reflects a school operating at the very top of its game. Inspectors highlighted pupils' high motivation, strong attainment, excellent curriculum design and a careers programme that genuinely prepares young people for life beyond school. Staff retention is high, workload is considered and ongoing training is developmental rather than box-ticking.

School and English Teacher role overview:

    • Large, mixed 11 to 18 community comprehensive with around 1,830 pupils
    • Diverse and ambitious student cohort with over 60% speaking English as an additional language
    • English Teacher role teaching across KS3 and KS4 with KS5 available for the right candidate
    • Largest sixth form in Hounslow with established A Level English Literature and Media Studies courses
    • Outer London MPS1 to UPS3

As an English Teacher, you will be joining a well-structured and experienced department with a clear approach to developing pupils' reading, writing, speaking and listening. The department balances a formal, rigorous framework with a genuine commitment to creativity, originality and a love of literature, from Shakespeare and the literary canon through to more contemporary writers.

A scheduled reading programme and regular library visits sit alongside GCSE English Language and English Literature at KS4, giving the English Teacher a strong and purposeful curriculum to work within. Schemes of work are established and resources are shared across the team, allowing teachers to focus their energy on delivering excellent lessons.

Staff benefit from a culture where subject knowledge is valued, CPD is genuinely developmental and colleagues routinely share expertise across departments. The school has a long and well-documented tradition of academic excellence and its results at GCSE and A Level reflect that consistently.

Early Career Teachers are well supported through a structured induction, and experienced English Teachers are encouraged to contribute to curriculum development and take on wider departmental responsibility where the ambition is there.

The successful English Teacher will be confident across both Language and Literature, have high expectations of every pupil and share the school's commitment to academic rigour in a diverse and thriving community. Applications are welcomed from both ECTs and experienced teachers.

If you are an English Teacher interested in a September start in Hounslow, get in touch with Ribbons and Reeves today to find out more about this school and others like it in the area.
