Mechanical Design Authority | Up to £85,000|Full-time, Onsite | North Cambridge

I am currently recruiting for a market leader in the field of critical communications. Their focus is on providing high quality products to a demanding, mission critical client base, which includes the police, paramedics, sea rescue, major airports, large mining facilities and utilities or oil and gas plants located in hazardous environments.

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Authority, you will be responsible for providing overall technical ownership for the development of professional mobile digital radio products and accessories to ensure a high quality, repeatable design which meets the agreed requirements and delivering products into volume production.

You will be responsible for:

• Leading technical contact during scoping, definition, design and production phase of new product development.
• Providing technical guidance for possible solution types to meet requirements.
• Assessing compliance of product performance against requirements.
• Reviewing mechanical engineering outputs for approval, including drawing review and approval.
• Mentoring and supporting mechanical design engineers.
• Providing technical solutions designed for manufacture.
• Managing 3rd party injection moulding suppliers.

Key Skills Needed:

• Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Solid foundation of experience in mechanical product designs that include integrated electronics operating in demanding environmental conditions.
• A broad range of mechanical engineering knowledge and proven industry experience in an equivalent lead engineer role
• Experience in manufacturing and injection moulding
• A self-starter with the ability to drive technical direction within multidisciplinary engineering teams
• The ability to consolidate complex and often conflicting requirements into clear and deliverable commitments
• The capability to specify technical requirements which result in “right first-time designs
• Strong understanding of product development lifecycle principals
• Proven track record of taking a lead role in delivering products into volume production

This is a full-time, onsite position (37-hour work week) based out of their North Cambridge office. The site offers substantial parking and is also accessible by shuttle which runs from their office to Cambridge North train station frequently. This role does include some international travel approximately 4 times a year. The position pays up to £85,000 (DOE), plus benefits.
