We are working with a highly respected, top-tier construction & engineering practice to appoint a Principal Associate into their Non-Contentious Construction team based in Birmingham, with flexible hybrid working and occasional travel to London.
This is a senior opportunity within one of the UK’s largest and most established construction teams, advising on high-value, complex projects across development, infrastructure, regeneration, and major real estate schemes.
The Role
You will join a market-leading team advising a broad and high-quality client base including developers, institutional investors, corporate occupiers, public sector bodies, and major contractors.
The work is varied, high-profile, and often nationally significant, covering major development, infrastructure, and regeneration projects across multiple sectors including logistics, energy, healthcare, life sciences, housing, and commercial real estate.
You will play a key role in leading transactions, managing client relationships, and supporting the development of junior lawyers within the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising on a full range of non-contentious construction matters on major projects
- Drafting and negotiating construction contracts (JCT, NEC, MF/1, FIDIC)
- Advising on development agreements, funding arrangements, and agreements for lease
- Leading on large-scale, complex development and regeneration schemes
- Managing matters with limited partner supervision
- Supervising and mentoring junior fee earners
- Acting as a key client contact and delivering commercially focused advice
- Supporting business development and client relationship growth
About You
We are seeking a qualified solicitor with 6+ years’ PQE and strong experience in non-contentious construction law.
You will have:
- Experience advising on major standard form construction contracts (JCT, NEC, MF/1, FIDIC)
- Exposure to development and funding agreements and agreements for lease
- Experience working on large-scale development, infrastructure, or regeneration projects
- Confidence managing matters independently and leading client relationships
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior lawyers
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- A commercial, pragmatic approach to legal advice
