How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Role: Manual Lathe Machinist
    Location: Harlow, CM20
    Hours: Full time
    Salary: £15.00 - £17.50 per hour

    An excellent opportunity has now arisen for a Manual Lathe Machinist to join our clients successful team.

    Who are we?
    Our client is a long-established electrical and mechanical engineering company based in Harlow, specialising in the repair, servicing and manufacture of industrial components including pumps, motors, gearboxes and precision machined parts. Operating a busy workshop environment, they provide a wide range of machining, fabrication and engineering services to industrial customers.

    Duties of a Manual Lathe Machinist:

    Operating manual lathes to manufacture and repair precision components

    Reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints and CAD models

    Setting and adjusting machines to required specifications

    Machining components in a range of metal and plastic materials

    Carrying out milling, grinding and assembly duties where required

    Working to tight tolerances and quality standards

    Using measuring equipment including calipers and micrometers

    Supporting the repair of pumps, motors, gearboxes and related industrial equipment components

    Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop environment

    Supporting production deadlines and workshop efficiency

    What we would like from you:

    Previous experience operating manual lathes

    Strong understanding of machining principles and workshop practices

    Experience with milling, grinding or general mechanical assembly

    Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications

    Experience machining metal and plastic materials desirable

    Good knowledge of measuring equipment and tolerances

    Mechanical aptitude with tooling, fixtures and machine setup

    Reliable with strong attention to detail

    Ability to work independently or as part of a team
