Despatch Operations Manager

This is a key leadership role within a high-volume distribution environment. You will lead despatch operations, ensuring all orders are packed, processed, and delivered accurately, safely, and on time—both in the UK and internationally.
You’ll be responsible for maintaining the smooth flow of outbound goods, meeting carrier deadlines, and driving operational efficiency. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you’ll play a critical role in delivering a best-in-class service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily despatch operations to meet volume, quality, and deadline targets
- Coordinate team activity to ensure efficient, accurate order fulfilment
- Drive performance through coaching, feedback, and strong people leadership
- Ensure all shipments meet customer, legal, and carrier requirements
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and logistics partners
- Monitor KPIs and use data to improve performance and efficiency
- Identify and implement process improvements
- Ensure accurate documentation, tracking, and reporting
- Champion health, safety, and operational best practice
- Collaborate across teams to support smooth end-to-end operations
Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience in despatch or logistics operations within a fast-paced environment
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ideally Blue Yonder
- Solid understanding of lead times, service levels, and customer requirements
- Knowledge of international shipping processes and documentation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Confident decision-maker with a hands-on approach
Desirable
- Experience in publishing, media, or FMCG
- Knowledge of LEAN or continuous improvement methods
- Familiarity with transport systems, carrier portals, and automation
