How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Civil Design Engineer | Water AMP 8

    Contract: Long‑term, Outside IR35
    Location: Chatham, Kent (Flexible Hybrid)

    Our client in water is seeking an experienced Civil Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of infrastructure and non‑infrastructure projects across a broad programme of work. This long‑term contract offers the opportunity to play a key role in developing, reviewing, and coordinating civil engineering designs within a fast‑paced, essential services environment. Hybrid working is available, with regular presence required at the Chatham office.

    Key Responsibilities

    Produce, review, and develop civil engineering designs for water and wastewater infrastructure
    Prepare design calculations, technical drawings, and specifications in line with industry and regulatory standards
    Support feasibility assessments, optioneering, and early‑stage technical input
    Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including process, mechanical, electrical, and delivery functions
    Ensure all designs consider buildability, cost efficiency, safety, and sustainability
    Manage and coordinate design documentation throughout the project lifecycle
    Provide technical support during construction, resolving design queries and responding to RFIs
    Assist in ensuring compliance with CDM, company policies, and water sector standards
    Contribute to continuous improvement of design methods and engineering processes

    Skills & Experience Required

    Proven experience as a Civil Design Engineer within the water, utilities, or infrastructure sector
    Strong proficiency in civil design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil3D, MicroDrainage (or similar)
    Sound understanding of water and wastewater infrastructure, pipelines, pumping stations, and associated civil assets
    Strong technical reporting and drawing production skills
    Experience in multidisciplinary project environments
    Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset
    Ability to work independently while engaging proactively with stakeholders
