A long‑established Bedford‑based contractor delivering residential projects across the region. Typical schemes range between 5–30 plots, including houses and maisonettes, with a strong focus on Design & Build social housing. Projects are located across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire, all within a reasonable travel radius. The Role
The Site Manager will take full responsibility for the day‑to‑day management and delivery of construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time and to the required quality standards. You will coordinate trades, maintain the programme, manage resources and act as the main on‑site representative for clients, consultants and suppliers. Responsibilities include planning and programming with the Contracts Manager, setting up site logistics, ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental compliance, managing labour and subcontractors, overseeing workmanship from foundations to handover, producing daily records and progress updates, and resolving technical issues promptly to maintain progress and support cost control.
The Right Person
* Previous experience as a Site Manager within housing, ideally with a contractor or in Design & Build social housing.
* Strong understanding of construction methods, building regulations and technical drawings.
* Confident in managing subcontractors, site teams and programme delivery.
* Knowledge of Health and Safety compliance with SMSTS and CSCS.
* Strong communication, organisation and IT skills.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites within approximately 60 miles of Bedford.
