How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    About the Role

    We’re recruiting motivated individuals to join our established programme, designed to develop the next generation of rail professionals.

    This is a unique opportunity within the Rail sector, combining hands-on experience with structured training and dedicated mentorship. Upon successful completion, you could progress into roles such as Signalling & Telecoms Technician or Team Leader in Rail Engineering.

    With over 25 years of industry experience, Vital Human Resources works alongside all major Tier One rail companies in the UK, including Network Rail.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    During your trainee programme, you will:

    * Work alongside experienced S&T Engineers

    * Gain hands-on experience in rail infrastructure

    * Carry out installation and maintenance activities on-site

    * Apply your learning in real-world environments

    Your formal training will be delivered by an approved provider and fully funded by us.

    * You’ll receive a minimum of 7 hours pay per day while attending training courses

    * Supported by a dedicated Training Officer and ongoing mentorship

    * Guided by your Line Manager to help shape your long-term career

    What We’re Looking For

    To succeed in this role, you should bring:

    * A genuine interest in a hands-on, trade-focused career

    * Energy and enthusiasm for a fast-paced, ever-changing environment

    You’ll also need:

    * Strong practical skills and awareness of health & safety

    * Flexibility to work shifts (days, nights, weekends) and outdoors in all weather conditions

    * A proactive, “can-do” attitude with good problem-solving skills

    * The ability to meet deadlines

    * Excellent communication skills and a good sense of humour

    * A valid UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle

    * PTS holder (advantageous)

    * Rail experience (advantageous)
