How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    EA Associates are working with a well-established and growing Groundworks contractor based in Cambridge who are looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join their team.

    The company deliver a wide range of residential and commercial groundworks packages across the region and have built a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and long-standing client relationships. With a healthy pipeline of secured work and continued growth, this is an excellent opportunity to join a stable and forward-thinking business.

    This is a varied and hands-on role, offering involvement across both pre-construction and commercial management, making it ideal for someone who enjoys seeing projects through from tender stage to final account.

    The Role:
    Working closely with the Directors and operational teams, you will play a key role in both winning and delivering projects, taking responsibility for estimating, cost control, and commercial performance.

    Key Responsibilities:

    * Preparing detailed estimates, tenders, and cost plans for groundworks packages

    * Carrying out take-offs and pricing works including foundations, drainage, roads, and infrastructure

    * Subcontractor procurement and negotiation

    * Managing project costs from award through to final account

    * Preparing valuations, variations, and cost reports

    * Monitoring project performance and forecasting costs

    * Identifying commercial risks and opportunities

    * Working closely with site teams to support project delivery and ensure commercial efficiency

    Requirements:

    * Proven experience within groundworks or civil engineering

    * Previous experience in Quantity Surveying, Estimating, or a combined role

    * Strong understanding of groundworks packages and associated costs

    * Good commercial awareness and negotiation skills

    * Ability to manage multiple responsibilities across different stages of projects
