How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Mechanical Design Engineer                   
    Southampton / Hybrid, UK                            
    £55 - 65,000 + benefits
      
    If you enjoy working in a flexible and dynamic start-up environment and love variety within your role then this senior mechanical design engineer opportunity would be a great fit.
    The company specialises in wind propulsion systems for the marine sector and due to considerable growth plans, they are looking for a senior mechanical design engineer to join their team and help drive products from concept through to full scale production.
      
    Your Role: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:

    Lead mechanical and structural design of subsystems from concept through manufacturing release
    Produce 3D models, detailed drawings and structural/ thermal FEA calculations to ensure robust designs, design for manufacture (DFM) & continuous improvement are achieved
    Manage design validation, documentation and integration with performance, systems and manufacturing teams
    Champion professional standards of engineering integrity, safety and sustainability within the team (DNV, LR etc)
    Lead rapid resolution of design issues arising from manufacturing and supplier feedback to maintain delivery momentum
    Own engineering interface with international suppliers, ensuring timely resolution of issues and progress toward delivery   
    Skills / Knowledge: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:

    A good degree in a relevant subject (e.g. mechanical / structural / marine engineering)
    Strong industry experience in either heavy structural design, heavy machinery, marine, wind turbines, cranes, shipping design, capital equipment, hydraulic lifting platforms
    Proven industry experience taking a product from concept into full production with good knowledge of DFM, DFA, large, welded structures, materials, corrosion, composites and steels etc
    Proven experience of high end 3D solid modelling CAD software (e.g. Inventor, Siemens NX, Solidworks, Creo, Catia or similar)
    Practical, hands on engineering skills would be ideal - ability to build or fabricate systems
    Proven experience driving cost-reductions to achieve targets
    Positive, enthusiastic attitude with a passion for engineering and mechanical product / structural design   
    This role sits within a growing start up business so flexibility and an adaptable approach to engineering is required.
    The role offers hybrid working with 3 days in the office based around Southampton
