How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Lecturer in Economics (ability to teach Business) 
    Location:  Newcastle-under-Lyme College
    Hours:  Part Time (0.6 FTE)
    Salary:  £32,136 - £42,848 pro rata per annum
           (actual £19,281 - £25,708 per annum)

    The group is currently home to a population of over 6,500 full-time students with around 2000 adult learners and students on higher education programmes. We have over 1,500 apprentices where we work with over 850 individual employers.  Our Sixth Form provision has a reputation for high academic achievement and excellence.

    We are looking for a Lecturer of A Level Economics within our Academic Studies Department who also has the ability to teach A Level Business.

    Our ideal candidate will be an inspiring lecturer who has a proven record of innovation and a pro-active approach to delivery. You will have also demonstrated an understanding and sensitivity towards the needs of your learners and used this to help them reach their true potential.  You will have experience of and/or the ability to teach A Level Business.

    We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic, self-motivated and a team player. As well as relevant experience, you will be qualified with related degree. 

    Main Duties and Responsibilities:

    •    Play an active role in the marketing of the College and the Department through such activities as open days and through liaison with local employers and schools.
    •    Engage in core duties including preparation, marking, monitoring student progress, preparing reports, setting and marking of examination papers, developing and preparing flexible learning materials, writing schemes of work and mentoring.
    •    Monitor retention, achievement and pass rates.

    Required Skills and Experience:

    •    Holds a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
    •    Has an appropriate teaching qualification.
    •    Is well organised and able to manage the peaks and troughs of a varied workload.
    •    Has experience in the delivery of A level Economics and the ability to teach A Level Business.
