How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Fire Safety Specialist (DSEAR Specialist) – Contract

    Location: Bridgewater, Somerset
    Duration: Until 31st December 2026 (With the posibility of Extention)
    Days on Site: 5 days per week
    Rate: Up to £500 per day / Inside IR35

    We are looking for an experienced DSEAR Specialist to join the fire safety team on a major nuclear construction project. This is a key contract role providing expert advice and assurance on the safe management of dangerous substances and explosive atmospheres.

    Key Responsibilities:

    * Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for DSEAR, providing specialist guidance and support to the project and contractors

    * Conduct, review, and approve DSEAR risk assessments and hazardous area classifications

    * Develop and maintain DSEAR policies, arrangements, and procedures to ensure full regulatory compliance

    * Implement and oversee control measures for fire and explosion prevention

    * Support the review of DSEAR assessments carried out by other organisations

    * Provide advice and assurance to regulators and stakeholders

    * Investigate DSEAR-related incidents

    * Promote a strong DSEAR awareness and compliance culture across the site

    * Work closely with fire safety, chemicals, environment, and electrical teams

    Essential Skills & Experience

    * In-depth knowledge of DSEAR 2002, ATEX Directives, and associated Approved Codes of Practice (ACoPs)

    * Strong understanding of explosion science, hazardous area classification, ignition source control, and CLP

    * Proven experience conducting DSEAR assessments and interpreting engineering drawings

    * Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (able to simplify complex technical information)

    * Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary construction environment

    Desirable:

    * Degree in Engineering, Fire Safety, Process Safety, Chemistry or related field

    * Relevant qualifications (e.g. CompEx Ex12/Ex14, NEBOSH Fire/Process Safety)

    * Experience in COMAH, process industries, or high-hazard environments

    * Knowledge of auditing Ex-rated equipment
