How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    As part of the Regional Leadership Team (RLT), you will provide leadership, guidance, and direction to ensure Lifesaving Operations delivers its core service in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. You will be a role model of RNLI leadership to all staff and volunteers in the region. You will be responsible for leading teams that deliver technical and engineering support.

    About the role

    Demonstrate the highest levels of collaborative working and collective responsibility by being an active member of the Regional Leadership Team and its planning function, providing cover for other leadership roles as required.

    Ensuring compliance with internal and external standards, policies, and procedures by working collaboratively to identify and manage risk to safety, health, and the environment.

    Ensure delivery to budget and managing capacity within the regional team by managing people and resources to ensure the delivery of the regional plan.

    Ensure effective implementation and assurance of engineering Design Authority across the region in accordance with the Engineering and Supply delegated Design Authority.

    Ensure technical support is delivered to achieve safe, effective, and efficient support to the front line in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS) by leading the Regional Technical Cell (RTC). Encourage collaboration across regions to enhance regional self-sufficiency.

    Ensure alignment of regional assets through life planning with the central Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP) through co-ordination with central planning functions. Supporting the development of a regional strategy and plan in collaboration with the RLT.

    Responsible for business planning (including relevant resources and finance) within the region and agreeing regional support requirements with relevant teams across the RNLI.

    Capture and monitor the region’s performance against agreed plans, policies, and standards, providing associated reports, analysis and insight to the RLT and wider organisation on a regular basis.

    Identify and implement opportunities to improve processes within the region, including assessing customer satisfaction levels. Working across regions and with other departments to improve organisational processes and practices.

    Escalate issues that cannot be resolved within the region to management or other teams where required, retaining ownership of issues where appropriate to ensure a timely and satisfactory response to the originator.

    Desirables required:

    An engineering degree qualification equivalent to the England, Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland qualification Level 6.

    Relevant H&S qualification – IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent and relevant audit qualification.

    Experience required:

    Considerable engineering and asset management experience, ideally in a marine environment. The ability to lead teams, their associated budgets and project delivery.

    About you

    An effective, self-motivated team player with a strong and broad engineering and supply background, with good communication and influencing skills to bring people together behind a single plan. Enjoys working on diverse projects with a mix of challenges and is able to communicate at all levels. Is happy with travel, occasional nights away and supporting an on-call / duty rota.
