How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Head of Food & Nutrition
    Location: Barnet, London, UK
    Salary: £44,128 – £56,154 per annum (M4 – UPS3)
    Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
    Start Date: September 2026

    Salary will be determined based on experience and position on the Main Pay Range. The maximum salary is applicable to candidates with substantial teaching experience.
    An ambitious and forward-thinking secondary school in the London Borough of Barnet is seeking a talented and inspiring Head of Food & Nutrition to lead and develop this important subject area. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher or aspiring middle leader to take ownership of the curriculum and make a lasting impact on students’ learning and wellbeing.

    The school is a comprehensive academy with a strong community ethos and has been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. It is committed to delivering high-quality teaching, supporting staff development, and providing a broad and engaging curriculum for all students.

    The Role

    As Head of Food & Nutrition, you will lead the subject across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with potential for KS5), driving excellence in both practical and theoretical teaching. You will shape the curriculum, promote innovative teaching strategies, and ensure students develop essential life skills around nutrition, health, and wellbeing.

    You will also play a key role in embedding Food & Nutrition within the wider school culture, promoting healthy lifestyles through enrichment opportunities and cross-curricular initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and develop the Food & Nutrition curriculum across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
    • Deliver engaging, high-quality practical and theory lessons
    • Drive standards of teaching and learning within the subject area
    • Monitor student progress and implement strategies to raise attainment
    • Manage resources, facilities, and health & safety within the department
    • Promote healthy living and wellbeing across the school community
    • Support and collaborate with colleagues and contribute to whole-school initiatives
    Requirements

    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
    • Strong subject knowledge in Food & Nutrition or a related discipline
    • Proven ability to deliver outstanding teaching and learning
    • Experience of, or readiness for, subject leadership
    • Passion for promoting health, wellbeing, and life skills
    • Strong organisational, leadership, and communication skills
    • Commitment to raising achievement and supporting all learners
