Job Overview
The Teacher of Geography is responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality lessons that develop students' understanding of the world around them. The role involves teaching a broad and balanced geography curriculum, enabling students to explore physical and human processes while developing analytical and critical thinking skills.
The postholder will create an inclusive and stimulating learning environment where students are encouraged to be curious about global issues and their place within them. The role also includes contributing to the wider life of the school and supporting students to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver high-quality geography lessons in line with curriculum requirements.
Create an engaging classroom environment that supports learning and encourages curiosity.
Teach a range of geographical topics, including physical and human geography.
Assess, monitor and report on student progress, using data to inform teaching.
Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
Maintain high standards of behaviour in line with organisational policies.
Contribute to the development of schemes of work and departmental resources.
Organise and support fieldwork opportunities where appropriate.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
Participate in meetings, parents' evenings and whole-school activities.
Contribute to the pastoral care of students, including tutor responsibilities where required.
Person Specification
Essential
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
Degree in Geography or a related subject.
Strong subject knowledge across key geographical concepts.
Ability to deliver engaging and effective lessons.
Strong classroom management skills.
Ability to assess and track student progress.
Good communication and organisational skills.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
Desirable
Experience teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and 5 if applicable).
Experience of organising or leading fieldwork.
Ability to contribute to extracurricular geography activities or clubs.
Experience of using data to improve student outcomes.
