About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Protection – Works Inspector to join a busy operational team managing third-party and external development works adjacent to or above TfL infrastructure.
You will be responsible for ensuring that construction activities do not compromise the safety, integrity, or operation of the rail network. This includes surveillance checks of safe systems of work, monitoring high-risk construction activities, and undertaking statutory network patrols under ROGS requirements.
This is a highly site-based role with significant exposure to active construction environments and operational railway interfaces.
Location
Site-based role (London Underground / TfL operational infrastructure)
You will be required to attend construction sites, undertake patrol routes, and in some cases travel onboard the network as part of inspection duties.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct surveillance inspections of high-risk third-party construction works near TfL assets
* Review and verify safe systems of work on active construction sites
* Undertake statutory network patrols under ROGS obligations
* Identify and escalate risks to operational railway infrastructure
* Liaise with contractors, site managers, and internal TfL stakeholders
* Monitor compliance across a wide range of developments (from small residential to major infrastructure projects)
* Produce clear and accurate site inspection reports
* Support safe delivery of works within complex, live operational environments
What We’re Looking For
Top 3 Essential Skills
* Strong background in heavy civils or construction environments
* Proven experience in site-based inspection, supervision, or construction delivery
* Ability to assess risk and identify potential impacts on live infrastructure
Additional Must-Haves
* CSCS card (mandatory)
* Experience working on or near operational infrastructure or live transport environments
* Strong understanding of construction methods and site safety controls
Desirable Experience
* Exposure to piling, excavation, foundations, basement construction, secant piled walls
* Experience with crane operations and scaffolding setups
* Background in utilities, rail, or infrastructure protection environments
* Familiarity with contractor compliance and safe systems of work reviews
* Knowledge of NRSWA or similar frameworks
About You
This role suits someone who has worked as a site manager, supervisor, or senior engineer within construction and is looking to move into a more structured, safety-led inspection environment.
You’ll need to be confident working independently on live sites, comfortable challenging unsafe practices, and able to make sound risk-based decisions.
Working Pattern
* Monday to Friday (day and night shifts)
* Engineering hours and weekend working required
* Potential overtime and possession shifts
* Flexibility required as allocation may change at short notice depending on project needs
