How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Role: Principal Civil/Structural Engineer

    Location: Devonport(Occasional site visit)

    Duration: 12 months(Long term - project goes until Dec 2028)

    The role

    We are looking for a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer ‎to support delivery of civil/structural subway systems as part of the subways Team in Devonport.

    Lead on the Structural / Civil works required for:

    Refurbishment design proposals for the existing extant subways within the 10D site.
    Development of new / alternative designs. Lead the design team with assessing the findings of recent condition surveys, within the extant subways, and develop a strategy / design for the remediation of these subways. This will need to be coordinated with existing utilities and proposed to ensure that all design requirements are met

    Day-to-day, you'll be supporting the engineering capability of the new systems through the design lifecycle in accordance with the design process.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    Lead and manage one or more technical design packages ensuring requirements are met through the design process
    Provide technical design guidance and review of sub-contract design to ensure compliance with specifications, technical regulations and standards
    Collaboration across engineering functions and stakeholders to integrate designs within the overall facility layout and manage interfaces
    Maintaining the engineering configuration of the design intent (change control)
    Essential experience:

    Design of high complex services subways/routes preferably in a Nuclear/ Regulated environment
    Regulations, legislation and standards that are applicable to civil/structural design and construction (including Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM)
    Substantiation of SFR's when identified within systems to support the nuclear safety case
    Able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in the technical management of complex design development throughout the design lifecycle.
    Provide expert advice to the sub-contracted design houses to enable them to develop the design.
    Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements.
    Experience of working in BIM environments.
    Awareness of project planning, project management and budgeting.
    Sound understanding of company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety and Quality requirements and ability to manage projects in accordance with these procedures.
    Collaborate with other design houses regarding the proposed works and the required changes to the subways to facilitate their designs.
    Support development and lead implementation of assurance and governance activities for subway remedial works and new design development

    Qualifications

    Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
    Chartered Engineer with membership of an accredited body (i.e. ICE) or working towards chartered status. Or significant experience.Due to the nature of the work carried out at our client's site, these roles are subject to specific nationality requirements and are only open to sole British citizens. Candidates who meet this criterion will also be required to undergo security clearance vetting
