How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Design Engineer / Senior Mechanical Engineer

    Location: Derby

    Overview

    Are you excited by the challenge of working on cutting-edge projects and ground-breaking engineering solutions? A renowned and respected engineering consultancy with a strong presence in highly regulated sectors is looking to appoint a Senior Design Engineer to join their industry leading team in Derby.

    This role offers the chance to contribute to technically complex programmes within nuclear and defence environments, working as part of a collaborative and experienced engineering team.

    Key Duties

    Develop and deliver engineering designs aligned with client and project requirements
    Create and maintain 3D models and technical drawings using CAD software
    Review, adapt and improve existing designs to enhance performance and manufacturability
    Ensure all work adheres to relevant industry standards, safety requirements and best practice
    Work closely with internal teams to bring concepts through to completion
    Provide technical guidance and oversight to less experienced team members
    Communicate design intent and solutions clearly to stakeholders

    Candidate Requirements

    Demonstrable experience in a senior-level design engineering or similar role
    Strong understanding of mechanical engineering and the ability to work closely with the mechanical engineering team
    Appreciate the manufacturing considerations within the design process
    Experience working in regulated industries (e.g. nuclear, defence, aerospace or similar) is advantageous
    Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as Siemens NX (or comparable systems)
    Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems
    Relevant engineering qualification (degree or equivalent experience)
    Working knowledge of applicable safety and compliance standards
