How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Electronics Software Engineer (Test & Measurement / ATE)

    Location: Sandhurst
    Salary: £45,000 – £53,000 (DOE) + mileage + TOIL
    Hours: 08:30–17:00 Mon–Thu, 08:30–14:30 Fri

Syntech is working with a small specialist automated test equipment (ATE) company in Sandhurst (team of 4–5 on site) who design, build and support bespoke electronic test systems. They need a self‑motivated Electronics Software Engineer to become a key part of the team and take on growing responsibility for applications work and major customers.

    The role

    * Develop and maintain test software using our in‑house test executive

    * Write and debug instrument drivers and test sequences

    * Work on ATE / functional test systems: setup, fault‑finding, integration

    * Support test, verification and calibration activities

    * Visit customer sites for installation, commissioning and support (UK, Ireland, occasional overseas)

    * Gradually take ownership of specific systems and customers as our senior engineer moves towards retirement

    Skills & experience

We’re looking for a good all‑rounder, biased towards software but strong enough on electronics to understand the hardware under test.

    Essential:

Experience writing software for test or control in at least one of:

    * VB / VBA / Visual Basic / C++ / C / LabVIEW or similar

    * Understanding of electronics / hardware / test & measurement

    * Experience with automated / functional / production test setups, or very similar

    * Comfortable working with calibration and basic test procedures

    * Able to work independently and pick up new projects with limited hand‑holding

    Desirable:

    * Exposure to Python or interest in learning it (for interfacing with our systems)

    * Previous experience as a Test Software Engineer, Electronics Software Engineer, ATE Engineer or Applications Engineer

We’re open to candidates without direct ATE experience if you have solid electronics knowledge, strong test software experience and the right attitude to learn.

    Travel & working pattern

    * Based on‑site in Sandhurst (5 days/week), with some remote work possible once established

    * Trips to customer sites in Ireland (typically in week‑long blocks, returning in between)

    * Occasional short trips overseas (normally no more than a week at a time)

    * Extra hours while travelling / on‑site are compensated with time off in lieu

    * Mileage paid when using your own vehicle; car allowance/leased vehicle may be considered if field work grows

If you’re an Electronics Software / Test Engineer who wants variety, responsibility and the chance to become the go‑to ATE applications engineer in a small, specialist company, we’d like to hear from you. Apply with your CV today
