How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We currently have a great opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our Waste Team at Oxford Waste Treatment Works (OX4 4XU).

    This is a fantastic opportunity for a mechanical maintenance technician to join a close-knit team which varies in age and ability, all performing at a high level. This role offers great learning potential with the ability to cross-skill into other disciplines.

    As the successful candidate, your role will be to ensure that all equipment at our waste treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods.

    You will also investigate plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process.

    Provide technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.

    What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical Technician

    Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical equipment in compliance with company standards and procedures, ensuring we continuously improve the mechanical asset base.
    Maintaining technical equipment such as Pumps, Chemical dosing, Gear boxes, high-pressure systems, Gas Systems, Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems, Valves, Motors, Generators, Drive Belts, Conveyors, Scrapers and associated control gear, automatic valves and penstocks.
    Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
    Providing technical advice to the wider team, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and providing training or support for technical trainees if required.
    Complete Lifting Operations safely as per LOLER regs.
    Proactively review the health and availability of assets on site.
    Ensure all relevant training, including mechanical and maintenance training, is up to date.
    Always working safely and complying with all Health and Safety guidance and procedures.Base Location – Oxford STW - OX4 4YU

    Working Pattern: 38 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 7:30 am -3:36 pm. Plus standby & overtime opportunity, increasing earnings by a potential £8,000 - £10,000 upon completion of essential company training.

    Equipment: All PPE, tools, plus the provision of a Van when on duty and on call.

    What you should bring to the role
    To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
    ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering is crucial.
    Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
    The work will require physical fitness, as you will work in confined spaces with the successful completion of the appropriate training.
    A valid driving licence is essential, and all necessary equipment, such as the vehicle and tools, is provided.What’s in it for you?
