How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Role Description

    This is a full-time hybrid role for a Commercial Development professional. Based in Portsmouth, the role offers flexibility with some work-from-home arrangements. Responsibilities include identifying and pursuing business opportunities, building strong client relationships, managing sales processes, analyzing market trends, and training team members as required. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive commercial growth and ensure customer satisfaction.


    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    • Maintain / develop good working relationships with all stakeholders
    • Identifying new markets, advertising the Companies' business and contacting / liaising with Potential Customers
    • Work out quotes for direct customers and freight forwarders for potential work, beyond 7 days. Use approved Export/Import formulas and check for market position on CarLo Rate Check to calculate and confirm prices to customers. Negotiate freight rates with carriers where necessary. Liaising with the relevant Operational Team as necessary, and pass on to the Commercial Development
    • Obtain Marine Insurance quotes for all teams
    • Follow up quotations to customers; request feedback to become more aware of the areas where ACP may not be so competitive
    • Forward new orders to Operational teams, all relevant documents including, where applicable, Customer Requirements, Customer SOPs must be uploaded to the BP filing
    • Commercial Development will check-in with the relevant Operational Team and customer following collection and delivery
    • Perform annual BP review on such things as SEED Checks and Indemnity Letters.
    • Review historical records to obtain potential customer details for the Commercial Development to review. For all potential customers an initial activity containing all information required to make contact will be created, utilising the Potential Customer template.
    • Create New Customer page on COG (Intranet) once first order has been confirmed
    • Monitor and review existing customers volumes and patterns, including pinch points, success rates and carrier performance on a monthly basis
    • Liaise with existing customers on a quarterly basis to discuss current work and any upcoming need, unless issues or concerns are identified on the monthly report
    • To ensure that there is frequent and free flowing information regarding customers, carriers and problem areas, the Commercial Development will join Operational Team meetings for the commercial review section
    • Maintain and update BP contact details and remove incorrect or outdated contact information as necessary
    • Log all aspects of direct customers commercial activity on CRM, such as telephone calls and email correspondence
    • Help maintain the team mailboxes
    • Provide cover for colleagues and assist as required
    • Advising customers as required
    • Provide guidance, support and mentoring to Quotations and Commercial Administrators


    Qualifications

    Required

    • Strong Analytical Skills to identify market opportunities and evaluate business performance
    • Excellent Communication skills for building client relationships and collaborating with teams
    • Proven Sales skills, with a record of achieving or exceeding targets
    • Proactive and results-driven mindset
    • Ability to work independently in a hybrid environment
    • Minimum Degree qualification or equivalent in a relevant field
    • Very good written and spoken English
    • A positive and proactive attitude
    • Good knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office packages, Outlook etc.

    Desired

    • Previous experience in transport and or logistics role
    • A second lanuage such as French, Polish, German, Spanish, Lithuanian


    We ask that all candidates have a maxmium commute time of approximatley 30 minutes or less.
