If you're someone who enjoys turning raw, messy data into something genuinely useful for a business - not just building dashboards, but shaping how decisions get made - this is a role where you can really make an impact.
I'm working with a client going through a major investment in their European data capability, and they're looking for a Power BI Engineer to join their Data & Decision Intelligence function. This role has been created due to increased reporting demand and limited cover when senior team members are unavailable, making it a key hire for the stability and scalability of the team.
You'll be joining a small, focused reporting team (Lead, Senior Developer, and Mid-Level Developer) within a wider European data function of around 11 people, all centred on decision intelligence. While compact, the team has broad reach across the business and works closely with Data Warehouse, Analytics, and operational stakeholders. This isn't just a reporting role - it sits right in the middle of the Data Warehouse, Analytics, and business teams, giving you real exposure to how data drives commercial decisions.
You'll work closely with analysts, engineers, and stakeholders across Europe to design and deliver reporting solutions that actually get used. That means understanding what the business is trying to achieve, analysing issues at source, and building dashboards and data models that provide a clear, trusted view of performance. There's a real balance here between building solid data foundations and responding quickly to management requests for fast, high‑impact insight.
A big part of the role is ownership. You'll be trusted to handle day‑to‑day reporting requests independently - investigating data discrepancies or bugs raised by stakeholders, analysing issues in Power BI, tracing problems back through Databricks when deeper investigation is required, and escalating to the Data Warehouse team where necessary. Over time, once you're up to speed, you'll also gain exposure to broader projects such as vendor reporting, logistics reporting improvements, automation initiatives, and contributing to DevOps workflows and processes.
You'll be working in a modern Azure-based environment, with plenty of opportunity to pick up new skills. The working style is reactive at times, with priorities shifting quickly based on business needs, so there's an expectation that you're proactive, comfortable self‑learning, and able to build confidence before moving onto larger, more strategic projects.
What you'll be doing
You'll design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports that support decision-making across multiple European markets and data domains, including Finance, Operations, and Logistics. You'll take ownership of incoming reporting requests and issues, investigating discrepancies, validating data, and ensuring stakeholders have confidence in the numbers.
You'll work across Power BI and Databricks to understand data end‑to‑end, helping maintain a consistent "single version of the truth" while remaining flexible when the business needs rapid answers. Alongside this, you'll monitor and maintain reporting performance, contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing, and play an active role in improving how data is used across the organisation.
What they're looking for
* Strong Power BI experience, including report building, debugging, and data validation
* Solid SQL fundamentals - comfortable working with joins and querying data to investigate issues
* Experience analysing and validating data, not just visualising it
* Exposure to Databricks or similar platforms for deeper data investigation
* Familiarity with Azure-based data environments (e.g. Data Factory, Databricks, Power BI Service)
* Understanding of data modelling concepts within a data warehouse environment
* Experience working across multiple data domains (finance, operations, logistics is a bonus)
* Excellent communication skills - able to manage expectations and clearly explain findings to stakeholders across Europe
* A proactive, self‑starter mindset, comfortable in a reactive environment with shifting priorities
Beneficial but not essential
* Degree in statistics, engineering, computer science, or a related analytical discipline
* Power BI certifications (e.g. PL‑300 / DA‑100)
* Familiarity with DevOps practices, boards, or reporting processes
The opportunity
This is a chance to join a growing European data function at a genuinely interesting point - with real investment, modern tooling, and the chance to take meaningful ownership early on. If you're looking for a role where you'll handle real business problems, develop strong technical foundations in Power BI and SQL, and grow into larger projects as the team evolves, this is well worth a conversation.
