We are working with a well-established and growing structural steel and architectural metalwork contractor based in Essex, who are looking to appoint an experienced Advance Steel Designer to join their in-house design team in the Colchester area.
The business delivers a wide range of commercial, residential, and public sector projects, and this role will play a key part in supporting the successful design and delivery of these schemes from concept through to fabrication and installation.
The Advance Steel Designer’s Role
The successful candidate will join a collaborative in-house design team, working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and workshop teams to deliver high-quality steelwork and metalwork packages.
Projects will vary across structural steel frames and bespoke architectural metalwork, including stairs, balustrades, and feature steel elements across multiple sectors.
You will be responsible for producing accurate 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings, ensuring designs are suitable for manufacture and installation. The role will involve coordination across all project stages, from initial design interpretation through to workshop production support and site delivery requirements.
The Advance Steel Designer
Strong experience using Autodesk Advance Steel (essential)
Experience within structural steel or architectural metalwork
Ability to produce GA drawings and detailed fabrication drawings
Good understanding of steelwork, connections, and fabrication processes
Experience working in a contractor or workshop-driven environment
Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team
Desirable:
Experience using Tekla Structures or AutoCAD
Previous experience on staircases, balustrades, or bespoke metalwork projects
