How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Trainee English Teacher

Could this be the role that takes you from graduate to future English teacher? Want to build classroom confidence in a strong secondary setting before progressing into formal teacher training?

    *** Trainee English Teacher
    *** £85 - £125 per day initially
    *** Temp to Perm
*** State of the Art secondary, Birmingham
*** Opportunity to build confidence and train as a teacher

    The Role:
Join the English department in a developmental role designed to help you build classroom confidence and subject experience before teacher training. You will support pupils with reading, writing, analysis, and exam preparation through 1:1 work, small-group intervention, and lesson support, while learning from experienced staff in a live secondary environment. National Careers says secondary teachers work with students aged 11 to 16, or up to 19 in schools with sixth forms.

    The Candidate:
You are articulate, organised, and able to explain ideas clearly. You want proper school-based experience, enjoy helping pupils improve in English, and see this as a genuine route into teaching rather than just another temporary job. School-centred teacher training routes in England are designed to be hands-on, with trainees in the classroom from the start and supported by mentoring and structured training.

    Requirements

Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.
    The School:
This state of the art secondary school in Birmingham offers a strong setting for a graduate who wants to learn quickly and grow into the profession. You will join a school where academic support matters, classroom practice is taken seriously, and the English team can give you the kind of day-to-day exposure that helps you build confidence before progressing into teacher training. (url removed)’s DBS workforce guidance was updated on 20 January 2026 and remains the core eligibility guidance for enhanced checks in roles working with children.
