How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly respected provider of passive fire protection and fire compliance services operating across the UK. With over 30 years of industry experience, our client delivers fully accredited, high-quality fire protection solutions to a wide range of commercial clients.

    Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Operations Director to lead and develop their operational function, ensuring the highest standards of service delivery, compliance, and client satisfaction.

    As Operations Director, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day operational performance of the business. Working closely with senior leadership, you will play a key role in shaping strategy, driving growth, and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.

    This is a senior leadership position requiring a balance of operational excellence, commercial awareness, and strong people management skills.

    Key Responsibilities

    *

    Lead and oversee all operational activities across multiple projects and sites

    *

    Work closely with senior leadership to align operational delivery with business objectives

    *

    Ensure full compliance with industry regulations, health & safety standards, and project specifications

    *

    Manage and support Contracts Managers, ensuring effective delivery across all live projects

    *

    Take ownership of resource planning, workforce supervision, and subcontractor management

    *

    Drive business growth through involvement in tenders, client engagement, and identifying new opportunities

    *

    Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and repeat business

    *

    Oversee budgeting, cost control, and financial performance of projects

    *

    Manage variations, day works, and ensure accurate commercial reporting

    *

    Ensure materials and stock are effectively managed and available for all sites

    *

    Implement and maintain training plans to develop staff capability and performance

    *

    Monitor quality standards across all projects and implement improvements where required

    *

    Contribute to wider business strategy, marketing initiatives, and networking activities

    Requirements

    *

    Proven experience in a senior operational leadership role within passive fire protection, construction, or a related sector

    *

    Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with fire doors and fire stopping systems (essential)

    *

    Demonstrable track record of managing multiple projects and teams successfully

    *

    Experience in tendering, winning work, and developing client relationships

    *

    Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage budgets and drive profitability

    *

    In-depth understanding of health & safety and compliance within the construction/fire sector

    Qualifications

    *

    CSCS Card (minimum requirement)

    *

    NVQ Level 2 or above (or equivalent)

    *

    SSSTS or SMSTS (essential)

    Confident communicator with the ability to engage at all levels

    *

    Proactive, solutions-focused, and commercially minded

    *

    Able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities

    Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
