How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Mechanical Estimator (Building Services / M&E) – Hybrid Working

    📍 Shrewsbury / Hybrid / Site Visits
    💰 £55K-£60K

    Are you an experienced Mechanical Estimator looking to join a forward-thinking and growing building services business?

    I’m working with a well-established M&E contractor who is looking to strengthen their pre-construction team with a technically strong Mechanical Estimator. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in securing and delivering high-value mechanical projects across a diverse portfolio.

    This position offers a hybrid working model, strong long-term prospects, and the chance to work alongside an experienced and collaborative estimating and design team.

    The Role

    As a Mechanical Estimator, you will be responsible for producing accurate, competitive, and technically compliant tenders across a range of building services projects.

    You will be involved from initial enquiry through to handover to operations, ensuring all submissions are commercially sound and aligned with project requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Estimating & Pricing

    * Prepare detailed mechanical take-offs from drawings and specifications

    * Price labour, materials, and plant in line with tender strategy

    * Build prelims, risk allowances, and value engineering options

    * Develop and maintain cost benchmarks and pricing data

    Supplier & Subcontractor Management

    * Issue and manage RFQs to suppliers and subcontractors

    * Analyse and level quotations to ensure best value

    * Review and validate design intent, including mechanical calculations where required

    Tender & Handover

    * Produce tender submissions, including clarifications, exclusions, and assumptions

    * Support development of programmes, BOQs, and cost breakdowns

    * Ensure smooth and detailed handover to delivery teams

    Collaboration

    * Work closely with estimators, designers, and commercial teams

    * Ensure all estimates are technically compliant and commercially viable

    What We’re Looking For

    * Extensive experience as a Mechanical Estimator within Building Services / M&E

    * Strong understanding of mechanical systems including:

    * HVAC

    * Public Health

    * LTHW / CHW systems

    * Domestic services

    * Proven experience producing detailed and accurate tenders

    * Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail

    * Experience with estimating software and cost databases

    * Relevant qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering / Building Services)
