How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    COMPANY OVERVIEW

Our client is a premium international contractor with a formidable reputation for delivering technically complex, high-specification projects across Europe. Operating at the forefront of the high-tech construction sector, they are consistently engaged on some of the continent's most demanding and closely watched programmes — projects where precision, speed and commercial discipline are not optional extras but fundamental requirements.

The business combines the scale and financial strength of a major European contractor with the agility and technical focus of a specialist operator. They work across a concentrated range of high-growth sectors where the bar for delivery performance is exceptionally high, and where clients expect a level of commercial and contractual sophistication to match the complexity of the works.

Having built a strong and growing footprint across multiple European markets, the business is now investing in the commercial infrastructure needed to support continued expansion. This appointment reflects a deliberate strategic decision to strengthen commercial oversight at portfolio level — ensuring that contract risk is managed consistently, commercial intelligence flows freely across projects, and the business continues to perform at the standard its clients and reputation demand.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PROJECTS

This is a portfolio-wide role, meaning your remit extends across multiple live projects rather than being anchored to a single site or programme. You will work closely with project commercial teams, operations directors and senior leadership to provide consistent commercial and contractual oversight, challenge, and guidance across the full project portfolio.

Projects are large-scale, technically sophisticated and fast-moving — environments where commercial acuity and contractual precision genuinely matter and where your expertise will be called upon at every stage, from pre-contract through to final account and dispute resolution. The nature of the work demands someone who can operate confidently in complex, multi-party contract structures and who understands how to protect a contractor's commercial position without compromising delivery relationships.

The role carries a pan-European travel requirement, with regular movement between project locations across the continent. This is not a desk-based position — you will be expected to engage directly with site-based commercial teams, attend key commercial meetings and provide in-person support where it matters most. The business operates across multiple countries and time zones, and the ability to work effectively across different legal, contractual and cultural environments is important.

The working culture is high-performance, intellectually demanding and deeply professional. Ambiguity is navigated with confidence, and commercial decisions are made with speed and clarity. This is an environment that will stretch a capable commercial professional and reward those who bring both technical depth and strategic thinking to the table.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    * Provide commercial and contractual oversight across a portfolio of high-tech construction projects throughout Europe, working alongside project teams to manage risk and maximise commercial performance

    * Review, negotiate and advise on a range of contract forms including NEC, FIDIC and bespoke client agreements — identifying risk, advising on positions and ensuring robust contract administration practices are in place

    * Lead or support pre-contract commercial activity including tender reviews, contract mark-ups, risk assessments and value engineering exercises

    * Monitor and report on commercial performance across the portfolio, providing senior leadership with clear, accurate and timely intelligence on cost, risk and contractual exposure

    * Manage the resolution of commercial disputes, claims and compensation events, working with legal and operations teams to protect the business's contractual position

    * Develop and embed consistent commercial processes and best practice frameworks across project teams, improving commercial capability and standardising approaches throughout the portfolio

    * Engage directly with clients, subcontractors and legal advisors on significant commercial matters, representing the business with credibility and authority

    * Mentor and support project-level commercial staff, sharing knowledge and raising commercial standards across the organisation

    WHAT YOU NEED

    * A strong background in quantity surveying or cost management, with experience gained on major construction or engineering projects — this role is well suited to a senior QS or cost manager ready to move into a broader commercial contracts-focused position

    * Solid working knowledge of major contract forms, particularly NEC and/or FIDIC, with hands-on experience in contract administration, claims management and dispute resolution

    * Commercially astute with the ability to identify, quantify and manage contractual risk across complex, multi-party projects and programmes

    * Experience working across multiple projects or programmes simultaneously, with the ability to prioritise, communicate clearly and maintain commercial rigour under pressure

    * Confidence operating at a senior level — able to engage credibly with clients, legal teams, operations directors and executive leadership

    * Willingness and ability to travel regularly across Europe as required by the portfolio — a valid passport and flexibility to move between project locations is essential

    * Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Civil Engineering or a related discipline; a professional chartership (RICS, CIOB or equivalent) is highly desirable

    * European language skills are an advantage but not a requirement

    WHAT YOU'LL GET IN RETURN

This role offers a market-leading salary of up to €140,000, reflecting the seniority and strategic importance of the position, alongside a comprehensive benefits package commensurate with a business of this calibre. You will gain unparalleled exposure to a world-class portfolio of high-tech European projects, with the visibility and influence that come with a genuine portfolio-wide brief. For the right candidate, this is a genuine platform to establish yourself as one of the leading commercial professionals in your sector
