How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Type: Full-time, Permanent

An established and highly respected building services consultancy are looking to appoint an Associate Mechanical Engineer due to planned growth. This is a unique opportunity to join a practice with a standout culture, a dynamic and collaborative team, and an inspiring track record of delivering innovative, sustainable buildings in partnership with leading architects.

The company is based in Central London and offers a full range of MEP and environmental design services across residential, cultural, hospitality and commercial sectors. Their projects range from new-build developments to the sensitive refurbishment of heritage buildings, with a strong focus on sustainability, building performance and occupant well-being.

What really sets them apart is their culture. This is a practice where engineers are encouraged to ask questions, challenge norms and think creatively. Everyone has a voice. If you are seeking a position where your ideas will influence the business, where you will be trusted to lead and mentor people, and where you can make a visible impact on company direction, this role offers that opportunity.

    The Opportunity
As Associate Mechanical Engineer, you will be part of the senior management team, leading your own internal group and managing multiple projects. You will balance technical leadership with team coordination, guiding engineering outcomes while also helping shape the working culture and standards across the business.

You will take a key client-facing role and represent the company in design meetings, workshops and strategic discussions. Internally, you will work closely with the directors to plan resources, review team performance and support future growth planning.

This is a role for someone who wants to be involved at every level, from project strategy and technical design to people development and broader business leadership.

    Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate a team of mechanical engineers, supporting their development, wellbeing and day-to-day workload
Take on Project Lead responsibilities across multiple high-profile and design-led projects
Manage project resources, scope and fees, ensuring high-quality delivery
Provide technical leadership in mechanical engineering across RIBA stages

Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes and design standards
Build trusted client relationships and contribute to long-term partnerships
Participate in workshops, technical reviews and presentations
Support directors with resourcing, forecasting and team planning
Maintain compliance with relevant regulations and internal QA procedures
Contribute to a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing and curiosity

    About You
You are a motivated and capable mechanical engineer with a blend of technical confidence, people skills and commercial awareness. You take pride in delivering elegant, low-energy design solutions and enjoy mentoring others, managing resources and helping projects run smoothly.

You are someone who thrives in a team environment, values open communication and wants to have a hand in shaping the future of the business you work for.

A genuinely collaborative, relaxed and people-first working culture
Meaningful involvement in complex, design-led projects with top-tier architects
Flexible working arrangements and emphasis on work-life balance
Career development, CPD and structured support from senior leadership
