How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Principal Substation Primary (HV Plant) Design Engineer
    Location: Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham, or Epsom
    Duration: 12 months initially
    Rate: Negotiable on experience

Our client, a leading organisation in power infrastructure, is hiring for a Principal Substation Primary (HV Plant) Design Engineer to join their dynamic team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on diverse projects within the transmission and distribution sectors across the UK, supporting innovative energy solutions.

    What you'll be doing:
    * Lead FEED and detailed design workstreams for HV substations, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with client specifications.
    * Manage and mentor a team of engineers, supporting their development and performance.
    * Oversee design reviews, including layouts, earthing, interlocking schemes, and HV equipment specifications.
    * Coordinate project interfaces with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers for seamless delivery.
    * Act as tender manager for HV plant packages, reviewing technical offers and ensuring competitive submissions.
    * Engage with clients and stakeholders through meetings, site visits, and technical reviews.
    * Support business growth by maintaining strong client relationships and identifying new opportunities.

    What you'll bring:
    * Experience leading technical teams in primary plant design for substations.
    * Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; Chartered Engineer or working towards it.
    * Proven expertise in HV plant design within the UK or internationally.
    * Skilled in preparing bids, cost estimates, and working with electrical standards (IEC, IEEE).
    * Effective communicator with the ability to manage multiple priorities and travel when needed.
