How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Civil Infrastructure Design Engineer
    Sheffield

A well-established, privately owned Engineering Consultancy with over 50 years' experience is looking to bring in a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to strengthen its Sheffield team.

They've built a strong reputation over the years for delivering practical, buildable engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors, working with both public and private clients. A lot of their work comes from long-standing relationships and repeat business, in some cases spanning generations, which says a lot about the quality of what they deliver and how they operate as a business. Internally, it's a collaborative environment with civil, structural and geotechnical teams working closely together, giving you exposure to projects from early concept right through to construction.

The role itself offers a good balance of hands-on design and project involvement. You will take the lead on infrastructure design across residential, commercial and industrial developments, covering highways, drainage, SuDS and flood risk. You'll be involved from the early planning stages, helping shape layouts and strategies, and then seeing things through to detailed design and approvals.

Day to day, you'll be trusted to manage your own projects, liaise directly with clients and stakeholders, and make key design decisions. There's also a strong mentoring element, supporting junior engineers and helping maintain quality across the team, so it suits someone who enjoys that mix of technical delivery and leadership.

The project work is varied, from large-scale developments through to smaller bespoke schemes, so it keeps things interesting. There's also a clear focus on delivering sustainable, practical solutions that work in the real world, not just on paper.

They're ideally looking for someone with strong experience in drainage and highways design, confident using AutoCAD, PDS and MicroDrainage or WinDes, and with a solid understanding of UK standards and approvals such as S38, S104 and S278. You'll either be Chartered or working towards Chartership with the ICE, and keen to continue progressing your career.

In return, the business offers a supportive and flexible working environment, with start and finish times that can fit around your routine. Salaries are reviewed twice a year and performance is recognised and rewarded on merit, which reflects the long-term approach they take with their people. Overall, it's a great opportunity for someone who wants to step into a role with real ownership, strong project variety, and a Consultancy that values long-term relationships both with clients and its team.
