The Role
We are a rapidly growing, multi-site manufacturing business operating within a specialist sector, with a projected turnover exceeding £60M this year. As part of our continued expansion and investment in our production capabilities, we are seeking a Maintenance Lead Engineer to join our engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and deliver PPM activities
Take a hands-on role in executing and leading scheduled preventative maintenance across a variety of production equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
Ensure safety and quality standards
Adhere to all health & safety procedures, risk assessments, and safe systems of work, ensuring all maintenance is completed to a high standard and in compliance with relevant regulations.
Support engineers and contractors
Provide supervision, guidance, and technical support to both internal engineers and external contractors during maintenance activities.
Safe equipment handover
Carry out thorough post-maintenance checks to ensure machinery is safe, fully operational, and ready for production. Complete all required documentation and handover processes.
Identify and escalate issues
Proactively identify defects or potential risks, ensuring they are properly recorded and escalated for corrective action.
Plan and prepare maintenance work
Ensure all tools, materials, permits, and documentation are in place ahead of scheduled maintenance activities.
Continuous improvement
Work closely with the Maintenance Manager to refine and improve maintenance procedures and PPM instructions.
Support wider engineering tasks
Contribute to broader engineering activities including reactive maintenance, installations, and improvement projects as required.
Experience & Qualifications
Strong mechanical and/or electrical maintenance background within a manufacturing or industrial environment
Proven experience delivering PPM in a production setting
Experience working with maintenance systems (e.g. CMMS)
Good understanding of safe systems of work (LOTO, permits, isolations)
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering
Electrical qualifications (e.g. 18th Edition Wiring Regulations) desirable
Inspection & Testing (e.g. C&G 2391) advantageous but not essential
Experience with PLCs, automation, or control systems beneficial
Skills & Attributes
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Good planning and organisational skills
Clear and effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
