How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Where you’ll be working

At Booth Welsh, you’ll be joining a business that works on real engineering projects and supports major industries through innovative technical solutions. During your apprenticeship, you’ll gain hands-on experience in live working environments, learning from skilled electricians and experienced teams while building the practical knowledge needed for a successful career. We’re proud to invest in people and give apprentices the chance to develop, grow and become part of the future of our industry. As technology and industry continue to evolve, electricians will remain central to keeping systems running safely, efficiently and effectively - and you could be part of that. At Booth Welsh, people matter. That’s why we look for individuals who are motivated, hard-working and ready to take the first step in their career.

    What you’ll be doing

    College learning

As part of your apprenticeship, you’ll attend college to build the technical knowledge that supports your practical work on site. While many apprentices really enjoy the hands-on side of the role, becoming a qualified electrician also means understanding the theory behind what you do. Throughout the programme, you’ll develop knowledge across a range of subjects and learn how to apply that understanding in real working environments.

To succeed, you’ll need to be committed, willing to learn, and ready to put in the effort needed to build both your practical skills and technical knowledge.

    On-site work experience

Alongside your college learning, you’ll gain valuable on-site experience with Booth Welsh, working alongside experienced electricians and engineering teams on real projects on client sites. You’ll also be required to record evidence of the work and skills you complete during your apprenticeship. This is typically managed through an electronic portfolio system, helping track your progress and demonstrate the experience gained throughout the programme.

    How the apprenticeship is structured

    Stage 1 – College and On-Site Training

You’ll begin with a mix of college learning and practical site experience, building core knowledge in areas such as health and safety, wiring systems, installation regulations and practical electrical skills.

    Stage 2 – College and On-Site Training

At this stage, you’ll continue developing your practical experience while building your theoretical understanding in areas such as cable selection, lighting, distribution systems, motor and control circuits, and inspection and testing.

    Stage 3 – Primarily On-Site Training

The final stage focuses mainly on on-site experience, where you’ll develop confidence in safe working practices, fault finding, inspection, testing, certification and commissioning electrical installations.

    Final Assessment

Towards the end of the apprenticeship, you’ll complete the Final Integrated Competence Assessment (FICA) — an important step in becoming a fully qualified and approved electrician.

    What’s in it for you?

At Booth Welsh, this is more than just an apprenticeship — it’s the start of your future.

You'll be employed at SJIB rates, which increase every year plus a company % uplift.

You’ll gain real hands-on experience, learn from experienced electricians and be part of a supportive team that wants to see you succeed. We’re proud of our strong track record in developing apprentices into qualified electricians and long-term members of our team.

On top of that, you’ll enjoy great benefits including free onsite gym access, 32 days holiday plus Holiday Boost Scheme, Westfield Health and Bupa coverage, a rewards platform and a culture that C.A.R.E.S.
