About the Role - Bedford
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who may face challenges in school due to emotional or behavioural needs. Your role will be key in helping them feel supported, understood, and ready to engage with learning.
You'll be someone who can model positive behaviour, remain calm under pressure, and build strong, trusting relationships with young people.
Pupils you support may experience:
Anxiety or difficulty managing emotions
Behavioural challenges or attachment needs
Low confidence and self-esteem
Difficulty forming positive relationships
The impact of trauma or challenging life experiences
Through consistency, patience, and encouragement, you'll help pupils build resilience, confidence, and a more positive attitude towards school.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils in lessons to help them access learning
Act as a positive role model, demonstrating calm and respectful behaviour
Help pupils develop emotional awareness and coping strategies
Encourage positive interactions with peers and staff
Provide 1:1 and small group support
Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and pastoral teams
Help maintain a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment
About You

Resilient and composed in challenging situations
A strong team player with good communication skills
Previous experience with SEMH or SEND is helpful but not essential - the school is keen to support individuals who are eager to learn and grow within education.
