How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Mechanical Design Engineer (Structural & Electromagnetic Analysis Focus)
    About Us
We are a fusion energy startup based in London. We are a combination of physics,
engineering, materials science and computer science talent. We are a high-calibre team intentionally maintaining a low profile; we prioritise performance over the performative. You will have real ownership from day one of problems, decisions, and outcomes - alongside meaningful equity. In return, we hope to see driven and rigorous work. Our colleagues keep a critical eye on all decisions, want to support one another and can adapt to working on new tasks as the need arises. We invite applications from a diverse range of backgrounds to give a range of perspectives as we race towards bringing innovative, complex engineering solutions to market. This environment is designed for people who want to do extraordinary work with the potential for extraordinary impact.
    Summary
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to lead detailed design and advanced
simulation work. You will join a team supervised by a Senior Engineer and advised by
colleagues who designed some of the highest-performance tokamaks in the world. The role focuses on creating high-fidelity CAD models, performing structural finite element analysis (FEA), and conducting electromagnetic modelling to support innovative product development for extreme environments.
    Key Responsibilities:
    ● Perform 3D CAD design and detailed modelling of mechanical components and
assemblies using industry-standard tools like Fusion360
    ● Carry out thermal and structural analysis and assessment of mechanical designs,
providing design input and implementing recommended design improvements.
    ● Execute electromagnetic modelling and simulation using tools like COMSOL
    Multiphysics.
    ● Optimize designs based on simulation results to meet safety, performance,
    reliability, and manufacturability targets.
    ● Collaborate with other engineers (electrical, systems, manufacturing) to develop
    integrated designs.
    ● Work with external suppliers and collaborators to assist and guide the
development and manufacture of the components and systems that will come
    together
    ● Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations of analysis results.
    Qualifications & Skills
    ● MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field.
    ● 1-3+ years of relevant experience, ideally in industries involving magnetic
systems, actuators, motors, sensors, or high-precision equipment.
    ● Experience in designing and delivering the conceptual and detailed design of
mechanical, structural, thermal or electro-mechanical equipments
    ● Understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, materials selection, and
    tolerance analysis
    ● Familiarity with multiphysics simulation environments.
    ● Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    ● Ability to work independently and in a small team
